Attendance
Under the current legislation, we have to report any unauthorised absence to the authorities. It is therefore essential that parents inform us of the reason for any absence, by phoning the school office on 01686 626303. We endeavour to provide a first day response to absence from school which means that if we have not been informed of absences by parents by 10am we telephone the child’s home.
Parents are reminded that under new Attendance guidance, up to10 days term-time holidays are permitted. Any more than 10 days will be marked as Unauthorised Absence.
Please be aware of the latest implications regarding Pupil Attendance and Unauthorised Absences.
Regular attendance and punctuality is very important.
Over the year 2024/25, school attendance rates were as follows:
- Total Attendance: 92.12%
- Authorised Absences: 6.67%
- Unauthorised Absences: 1.21%
In our Friday assembly the class with the highest attendance is presented with the ‘attendance dragon’ trophy to keep in their classroom until the following week.
From the table below you can see how your child may be affected by various levels of attendance. As the table indicates, there is a strong correlation between good attendance and high achievement.
| 95-100% attendance | Best chance of success | Your child is taking full advantage of every learning opportunity. |
|---|---|---|
| 90-95% attendance | At least 2 weeks of learning missed | Satisfactory. Your child may have to spend time catching up with work. |
| 85-90% attendance | At least 4 weeks of learning missed | Your child may be at risk of underachieving and may need extra support from you to catch up with work. |
| 80-85% attendance | At least 5 ½ weeks of learning missed | Your child’s poor attendance has a significant impact on learning. |
| Below 80% attendance | At least 7½ weeks of learning missed | Your child is missing out on a broad and balanced education. You are at risk of prosecution. |
I cannot stress enough the importance of regular school attendance, so that your child can benefit from the varied learning opportunities on offer at the school.
These attendance statistics are monitored by the Local Authority Inclusion Service, who work closely with the school on any matter regarding low attendance.
